Griselda (Grace) Aguirre-Garcia writes grants for education organizations in Texas.

Before she writes anything, she takes an inventory of the organization: where it has been, where it is, and where it is going. Then she looks for funding that fits more than one of the things it is trying to solve.

    She looks for a grant that can solve more than one problem at once. One well-matched grant can sometimes cover more than three separate applications would.

    The options go to the board. The board decides the scope.

    She writes the application the board approved. On Texas Education Agency filings, the grant writer's name goes on page 1. Hers has been there before.
